2020 Non-Ad Valorem Assessments Hearing

And

Tentative 2020 Millage Rate Hearing

And

Tentative 2020-2021 FY Budget Hearing

 

Notice is hereby given that on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at 5:01 p.m. or as soon thereafter as the matters may be heard the District will conduct three (3) virtual public hearings on the following: (1) the District’s adoption of the 2020 Non-Ad Valorem Assessments; (2) the District’s adoption of the 2020 Tentative Millage Rate; and (3) the District’s 2020/21 Fiscal Year Tentative Budget. The meeting and hearings will be conducted by video and audio tele-conferencing pursuant to Executive Orders 20-52, 20-69, 20-112, 20-123, 20-139, 20-179, 20-193 and any other Executive Order(s) subsequently issued by Governor DeSantis, and pursuant to Section 120.54(5)(b)2., Florida Statutes

While it is necessary to hold the above referenced meeting/hearings of the District’s Board of Commissioners utilizing communications media technology due to the current COVID-19 public health emergency, the District fully encourages public participation in a safe and efficient manner.  Toward that end, anyone wishing to listen and participate in the meeting/hearings can do so telephonically via Go to Meeting at https://www.gotomeet.me/SouthernManateeFireRescue/bocmeetings  dialing in +1 (646) 749-3112  with an Access Code of: 222-700-733.   Additionally, participants are encouraged to submit questions and comments to the Executive Management Assistant at least 48 hours prior to the meeting/hearings at dtuckerman@smfr.com or call 941-751-7675 to facilitate the Board’s consideration of such questions and comments during the meeting/hearings.

A copy of the agenda may be obtained at the offices of the District (2451 Trailmate Dr, Sarasota FL 34342) during normal business hours or accessed on the District’s website, smfr.com.

The meeting/hearings are open to the public via phone or computer and will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of Florida law for independent special taxing districts.

The purpose of the first public hearing will be for the District’s Board of Fire Commissioners to hear testimony and evidence relating to the District’s adoption of the 2020 Non-Ad Valorem Assessments and to certify an assessment roll.  Immediately following the first public hearing, the District will consider the second public hearing to consider the 2020 Tentative Millage Rate.  Immediately following the 2020 Tentative Millage Rate Hearing, the Board of Fire Commissioners will hold the third public hearing to hear testimony and evidence relating to the District’s adoption of 2020/21 Fiscal Year Tentative Budget.

Interested parties are encouraged to attend the virtual public hearings either by phone or computer or submit their appeal in writing prior to the date of the public hearing(s).

No stenographic record by a certified court reporter is made of this meeting. If any person desires to appeal any decision of the Southern Manatee Fire & Rescue District Board of Commissioners, that person will need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.  (F.S. 286.0105).
