On April 29 2019, at 1512 hours Southern Manatee Fire Rescue District was dispatched to 6341 33rd Street East for a report of a fire within a commercial building. The initial fire apparatus dispatched to this address was Engine 311, Engine 321, Engine 341, Ladder 339, Squad 328, Medic 7 and Battalion 3. Ladder 339 reported heavy black smoke visible from their station. Battalion 3 arrived on scene first and reported a working fire in commercial building and immediately requested a 2nd alarm response which brought him Engine 312, Engine 351 and Cedar Hammock Engine 241.
Battalion 3 ordered 2.5” attack lines to be placed in service along with the operation of the master stream on Ladder 339. Battalion 3 requested an additional Medic unit and Raptor 1 for Rehab. This fire was brought under control by 1710 hours. Medic 7 did transport one occupant to Blake Trauma Center that did sustain some 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his right forearm and hand. State Fire Marshal Office was on scene along with SMFR Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the fire, which was ruled accidental. This fire started in the boat repair section of this commercial building.
